When David wrote Psalm 51, the prophet Nathan had just laid into him for having Uriah the Hittite murdered to assuage David’s guilt for his voyeurism and lust turned into a sexual mess. While God made something beautiful come out of David’s enormous error and despicable behaviour (as often happens with us), at the time David was repenting - looking for a changed mind and behavior.
This is a bit of a cowboy tune sung in Spanish. In the US, many agricultural workers are from Latin America and are exploited for their labor and not given access to societal rewards and a path to citizenship is difficult if one doesn’t have the proper documentation. We remember our sisters and brothers working hard for their families, for hope, and want to be part of a solution.

We all need inner change, both the comfortable and the oppressed. One thing that unites us is the hope that God can renew us and put us on a Good path. For worship times, we usually all sing this song together. We highlighted one cowboy’s voice to keep it quiet and reflective, almost like we could at the end of a hard day’s work while we share stories and songs around the fire in open country.
