When gathering to worship Jesus, we think the majority of songs and material should be directly addressing God (worship). There is some space for singing about God (praise) or expressing personal sentiments (declarative) or even singing to one another (encouragement). This one is a story about John the Baptizer, pointing the way to Christ. If the group is not used to singing in Spanish, you may want to have them learn the chorus “En el desierto…” well and just listen during the verses. We’re doing some variation on a traditional Mexican ballad done in modern Norteño style.
